Uvis Slakteris of Riga Powerboat Team was one of the three local favorites at the UIM Formula 2 European Cup race in Aluksne, Latvia. During the Grand Finale race he did not leave any chances nor to his fellow country men – his teammate Martins Bergholcs and Ugis Gross of Kalnciems Racing Team, nor to any other pilots.
Starting from the fourth position, Uvis took off as if there was no tomorrow passing everyone with tremendous speed on the outside during the first lap. For the rest of the race nobody was in a position to stop him. Pole position holder Ugis Gross was steadily piloting his boat in the second place and it seemed that the Latvians will capture the two top spots of the podium. However, engine of Ugis’ boat betrayed him once again and he was forced to withdraw.
Current leader of the UIM F2 European Cup Mikael Forss (Finland) representing F1 Team Sweden and Johan Osterberg put up a great show for the spectators as they fiercely fought for the third place. Johan attacked Mikael on the outside and inside numerous time and only at the very end of the race he succeeded. With Ugis Gross withdrawing both pilots were able to take the podium – 2nd place for Johan and 3rd for Mikael.
One of this season’s rookies in F2, Martins Bergholcs finished forth in the Grand Finale race and overall he was fifth best pilot in Aluksne. Experienced Olle Martin (Finland) of TBR Racing team was forced to battle with another rookie, Bartlomiej Marszalek of Poland representing Balt Yacht team. At the end, Olle’s experience was the key to winning this fight.
Even though after the crash in Ekenas, Finland Yousef Al-Robayan (Kuwait) of Port Ghalib Team did not think that he will manage to be in Aluksne he was there. Despite the good results in Sprint races, he could not finish the Grand Finale race.
